About Me

I am a Washington, D.C.-based analyst. I recently completed my PhD in political science at Duke University, where my research centered on state-society relations and repression in authoritarian regimes, with a regional focus on China.

Prior to Duke, I was a research associate for China Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations and a J. William Fulbright Scholar in China. I received a MSc from the University of Oxford in Contemporary Chinese Studies, and a BA with honors in Government/Legal Studies and Asian Studies from Bowdoin College.

My writing and commentary has appeared in academic journals as well as popular media outlets such as Foreign Policy, CNN, CNBC, The Spectator (UK), The Diplomat, and the Toronto Star, among others.

With roots in Maine and Beijing, I consider myself a lobster roll and jianbing aficionado
