Viola L. Rothschild
PhD Candidate, Political Science

About Me
I am a PhD candidate in political science at Duke University. My research centers on state-society relations and repression in authoritarian regimes, with a regional focus on China.
Prior to Duke, I was a research associate for China Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations and a J. William Fulbright Scholar in China. I received a MSc from the University of Oxford in Contemporary Chinese Studies, and a BA with honors in Government/Legal Studies and Asian Studies from Bowdoin College.
My writing and commentary has appeared in Foreign Policy, CNN, CNBC, The Spectator (UK), The Diplomat, and the Toronto Star, among other outlets.
With roots in Maine and Beijing, I consider myself a lobster roll and jianbing aficionado.
